AUGERMO.COM

Welcome to the Associated & United Gasoline Engine Registry. This site will be used to document everything that the United Engine Company sold and the Associated Manufacturers' Company built. This site is constantly under construction and will be updated as engines are submitted. This website will include all names that Associated/United sold hit and miss or throttle governed engines under and will also include other equipment such as cream separators, washing machines, buzz saws, and even radios. Please use the tabs above to navigate this site. With this redesign I hope that the site is more useful and hope to continue promoting the history of the United Engine Company like the registry keepers before me. If you have any problems using the website or would like to contact me, please use the Contact page.

Latest Updates!

January 15, 2023

I've added several new United literature pieces to the database. Check them out here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. I will be working on expanding the Associated side of this website so expect to see some changes. For United, I've recently acquired a United 1-1/2hp Air Cooled 'Busy Boy' style engine along with a United Power Washer.

October 23, 2021

A 2-1/2hp Type A throttle governed engine surfaced in Thailand recently with an unusual mixer and factory Wico EK ignition. Interestingly, the engine 2 numbers below it is a regular hit and miss engine in USA with none of the oddball features. It can be seen on the registry. The serial is 205691.

August 8, 2021

A new United tag has been discovered in Canada. This air cooled was sold by National Machine Co. of Brighton, Ontario, Canada.

Major Update!

I have partnered with Keith Smigle and will be hosting the Associated registry and information as well. Please continue to submit your Uniteds as you have previously and in the near future start to register your Associateds! It will take a bit of time to get everything uploaded and replicated but in the end I plan to have a mirrored site for United and Associated engines. Please excuse any blank pages or issues in the meantime with the site. I will be updating the sections live as to not interfere with anyones viewing. I'm happy to help keep the Associated history alive.

Number 800!

We now have 800 United Engines registered. Thanks to everyone who submitted their engine and thanks to the former caretakers for all their hard work in getting us here. This is the 800th submission, also the latest engine on record with the 'Makers' tag.

May 10, 2021

A Type B engine was found in a collection on Long Island, NY which prompted another being discovered in Michigan! We now have 4 of these rare Type B United engines on the list. Only one of them has a tag and still no positive ID on the builder, although I heavily suspect Field & Brundage. They can be seen on the serial number list.

Happy New Year! Thanks to a donation from a fellow collector we now have a United Parts Bag mailer that appears to be a leftover, never mailed. We've also listed a beautiful original paint "Johnny Boy" model United and that can be seen on the registry, serial 251890. There are also photos of a new United fold out advertisement in the literature section. If you own this piece (it was recently sold at auction) I would love to chat with you. As always, I'm looking to expand every section of United so if you have anything to share (photos, copies, stories) feel free to send me a message.

Several engines have been added to the registry as well as literature and a neat leather envelope.

February 5, 2020

Check this out! A collection of paperwork from U.E.C to an individual in Lexington, NY has been found and uploaded to the site. Post cards, letters, price lists and even a Santa Claus themed advertisement. All can be seen on our literature page!

December 27, 2019

The new brochure has arrived but unfortunately it is missing some inside pages. There is still a LOT of great information inside and can be viewed on our literature page.

December 25, 2019

I've added 2 more invoices to the literature page and have a 30 page brochure on it's way!

Merry Christmas to all!!

September 12, 2019

Many more engines have been added to the listing over the past few months. A few days ago I was able to add a new jobber tag to the list. The list of all known tags can be viewed on the United Tags page. This one is marked John B. Varick Co, Manchester, NH. The engine is an early 6HP Type A and was recently found still in Manchester!

June 30, 2019

The first 25hp Twin Cylinder UNITED has been added to the registry. Check it out!

May 17, 2019

A few engines, feed mills, an invoice, and another teat cup have surfaced and are documented on the serial number list and the 'Others' sheet of United products.

May 12, 2019

United Gas Engine Registry Master

March 20, 2019

I've added a simple counter chart to the registry. This will serve as a quick way to see how many engines of each size and type are listed.

March 18, 2019

I've been able to add a real Diabolo No. 2 Cream Separator to the Other United Equipment. This was shared on Facebook. This is the first United Engine Co. Cream Separator I have on the list and interested in seeing more! This No. 2 separator was rated for 550-600 lbs per hour and cost $31.50 in 1915. That would equate to $788.36 in 2019. More details on the separators are available in the Advertising section.

March 7, 2019

I've added a section on tag design to the current tag page. That page has been renamed United Tags & Jobber Names. There you will find the history of the tags seen on Uniteds with a brief explanation of each tag. For more details on the engines please see United Engines.

February 26, 2019

Thank you to Michael Sands of Iowa for graciously providing high resolution copies of two United letters, a fold-able brochure, and a saw blade flyer. These documents have been uploaded to the Letters & Manuals page. He also has a manual in tough shape but is going to attempt to make copies of that as well.

February 21, 2019

-Many new engines have been added to the registry.

-I've been replacing low quality advertisements with higher quality ones for printing and easier viewing. This is still a work in progress.

-You may see some "test" pages throughout the site for some new things I'm testing out. These may come and go at random times

-I was contacted by an individual who has a few United letters mentioning selling points of the engines and a list of clutch pulley's that were available. He is graciously providing copies for the website. They will be uploaded to the literature section.

January 18, 2019

-Combined several informative pages into one Engine Specifications page. This page gives an example of each size and type United engine, weights, bore, stroke, cart dimensions, etc.

-Added a new pricing sheet to compare United prices to Associated and Waterloo prices directly.

-Added new Facebook plugin to the footer of the site.

-Restyled serial list and separated sizes. Another 1-1/2 HP "busy boy" style United was added.

-Another United feed grinder was added to the Other United Equipment list

January 16, 2019

-I've expanded C. L. Sprinkles biography (thanks to Ancestry.com records) and published it on his page. I have been able to follow him from birth to death and even found the companies he was with after United went out of business.

-Also new is a more detailed timeline of the United Engine Company.

-Many new advertisements have surfaced and have been added to the site.

-Redesigned homepage/what's new into one page

As always, thanks for viewing the site. If you have anything to contribute please contact us.

January 9, 2019

I've added a few new advertisements as well as reorganizing the Serial Number List. I've added approximate dates to the engines. There are still no factory records available but I was able to put a guess towards dating based off research. If you have anything that could help date even a single engine it would be greatly useful and appreciated.

Happy New Year!

December 31, 2018

I've made some updates to the advertising portion of this site. Check out the new layout under United Literature & Manuals. I've also transcribed the letters for easier reading.

December 22, 2018

I've been able to add several more United engines to the lists, thanks to Johnny Tonjes. One of those is a very nice 1-1/2 HP Type A. I've also added quick links to the homepage for viewing the registry list, submitting an engine, and supporting the site. Keep submitting your engines and be sure to visit us on Facebook as well.

November 26, 2018

A few engines have been added to the registry lately, including another UMA 2HP built by J. Thompson & Sons. This brings the total number of these engines to 6. Check it, and all other engines, out on the engine Serial Number List.

October 20, 2018

A new instruction manual and parts repair list has been added to the registry. It includes the Kerosene Throttle Governing mixer so it is believed to be from 1915 or newer. The manual was scanned and uploaded as a .pdf file and can be viewed on the "Other United Equipment" or "United Advertising" main pages. The .pdf should be available for download if you would like to do so.

Minor formatting edits on Timeline and Other Equipment Lists

October 2, 2018

We have new information regarding the end of the United Engine Company. The following was provided by Tim Tackett.

"Researching Farm Implement News Buyers Guides, the last year that United Engine Co. was listed as supplying gas engines was 1931. In 1932 they were no longer listed as supplying engines, AND Associated Mfg. Was listed first time as supplying repair services for United Engines.

United continued to be listed as providing repair services for manure spreaders, washing machines, cream separators, etc all the way up to 1947 but from 1942 to 1947 there listings dwindled dramatically with only two listings in '47. That is last year of buyers guide I have found from source I was researching. "

Thank you Tim for the research! The United Timeline has been updated to reflect this information.
